United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rosebud man, charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, was sentenced on February 6, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Frank White Thunder, age 24, was sentenced to 13 months in custody, 5 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
White Thunder was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 13, 2011. He had previously been convicted of a sex offense that required him to register as a sex offender. From about June 2, 2011, until September 13, 2011, White Thunder lived and resided at Rosebud on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota. During this time frame, even though White Thunder knew he needed to register his new address in Rosebud, under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, he knowingly failed to do so. On October 5, 2011, White Thunder pled guilty to Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
This case was investigated by the United States Marshal’s Service. Assistant United States Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case.
White Thunder was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal to begin serving his sentence.
